The Skaarup Maritime Education Fund Kicks Off

On January 27, 2006, at Richard’s of Greenwich, The Connecticut Maritime Association recognizes and celebrates Ole Skaarup for his announcement of the creation of the Skaarup Maritime Education Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to foster the development of maritime skills and knowledge and a much needed interest of young people in the maritime industry. Skaarup will provide the initial contribution to the Fund and memembers of the industry are invited to participate. The Fund will provide resources to create new nautical and maritime program and to supplement SoundWaters existing program onboard the Schooner SoundWaters and at the SoundWaters Coastal Education Center. The Fund might also participate in the financing of a second vessel for extended educational programs. The Honorary Host Committee present at the event includes Jim Lash, First Selectman, Town of Greenwich, Dannel Malloy, Mayor, City of Stamford, Brad Berman, Richard du Moulin, Per Heidenreich, James R. Lawrence, Charles Mallory, Cathrine S. Parker, Howard Pierce, and Stephen Skoufalos.
